Mary and the Hoosier Cabinet

Mary and the Hoosier Cabinet

In my kitchen sits an antique Hoosier cabinet, traditionally known as the “Kitchen Work Center” of the late 1800s to early 1930s. Years ago, a loving mother stood at this cabinet,…

When Life Brings the Unexpected

When Life Brings the Unexpected

Saturday morning without Joe in the house started like all others. Being the first one up, I poured a cup of coffee, opened my Bible to spend quiet time with God before the busy day began. The quiet lasted about 10 minutes before my 8-year-old, James, came bee-bopping down the hall, football in one hand, ready to start the day.

We drank coffee while I cooked breakfast. Josh, my teenager, typically likes to sleep late on Saturdays, but today he was up earlier than usual. The three of us enjoyed breakfast and then sat sipping coffee while discussing plans for Halloween. James was bitin’ at the bit to go outside to play

A Scarred Tree

A Scarred Tree

Crooked and scarred from the storm it endured, it is not considered a pretty tree. But when I turn in my driveway, especially during the fall of the year as it showcases its vibrant colors, it reminds me of God’s faithfulness in the storms of our life. And as I awake each morning, looking out my bedroom window, this scarred tree is the first thing I see. Our Sweet Hershey

Our Sweet Hershey

We started our own blackberry garden last year, so this was something that caught our interest. We pulled into the drive, knocked on the door, and the gardener was more than pleased to give a tour

The Road of Trust

The Road of Trust

This picture was taken recently on a trip back home to Mississippi. It is a familiar road I traveled many times as a young girl with my parents. It leads to a place I still call home after all these years. For most of my life, this road was a gravel road.

Green Tomatoes

Green Tomatoes

With basket in hand, I made my way to the garden to pick vegetables, including the tomatoes that were growing along the inside of the garden fence. Yesterday I noticed a few that were almost ripe. Today they would be picked and served with fresh green beans and new...

The Circle of Life

The Circle of Life

I gave up my bacon this morning for a little bird in a distressful situation! One of my cats (Hershey) caught a Eastern Bluebird, and as I walked out my door, I heard its screech for help. I immediately went to its rescue. It was no easy task. Hershey did not want to...

Distraction or Inspiration?

Distraction or Inspiration?

In the springtime, I work from my "porch office." Then, as the heat and humidity of summertime in the deep south arrives, I work from my "den office."   Often while working, I see birds of many species feasting at the feeders just outside the patio...
