Cranberry Orange Relish is both delicious and beautiful served on the holiday table.Cranberry Orange Relish has been a holiday tradition in my husband’s family since as far back as I can remember. It is delicious, but also a beautiful side dish with the holiday meals.

My mother-in-law always used the old sausage grinder to prepare the cranberries and oranges. A couple of years ago, I decided to use the food processor. You can do that, but I only did one year! The old grinder does a better job of blending the cranberries and the oranges together (you will see in the pictures below). So each year, the grinder is used for this purpose only, then placed back on the top of the cabinet where it remains until the next holiday season.

If you don’t have one of the old grinders, go ahead and use the food processor, but if you ever see one of these an antique store, grab it! You will be glad you did!

Here are the ingredients and this is just the way Grandmother made it! Enjoy!

1 (12-oz.) bag fresh cranberries, rinsed

1 navel orange, cut in sections

1/2 cup sugar, plus more if desired

Pinch of salt

Grind together the cranberries and the orange slices (peeling and all!). Add sugar and salt.

Place in a saucepan and cook over medium heat for 10 minutes. Cool. Place in jar and keep in refrigerator until ready to serve.

It’s that simple!

Note: I triple the recipe so we have enough for all our holiday meals! It is perfect to serve over cornbread dressing, as a side dish with ham, or with hot buttered biscuits and your morning coffee!
