Excerpt from Promises & Prayers, January 2019

Today, as I look out my window, I see paperwhites blooming along the Oak Trail Garden. I almost miss them every year as they bloom in the middle of January. They are so delicate and beautiful. They remind me of hope, the sign that even in the cold of winter, I find strength and a promise of the Spring that is soon to follow. Things will begin to grow, bloom, and yield fruit for harvest in a few short weeks.

Now finished with chemo and radiation, I look forward to springtime when the flowers will bloom once again. My gardens have been a place of healing for me.

Life changes have pricked the hearts of our family and brought us to our knees this last year. The unexpected potholes and the bumps were challenging. Yet, we journeyed through it with thankfulness and gratitude for life itself, holding on to hope for better tomorrows.

Though hard at times, I am so thankful for this journey that God allowed me to travel; I am a better person because of it. He brought people into my life who loved on me and became the hands and feet of Jesus. Through every pothole and bump, God proved Himself to be my faithful, loving Father and loved me through it all.

Soon, I will be digging in my dirt, planting, and playing in my gardens. Yes, I said playing because, even though it is often strenuous and hard work, it is play and brings me pure delight. I get excited thinking about garden chores.
