Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking to a wonderful group of ladies, the Widows’ Might Ministry of Liberty Baptist Church in Chelsea. As I stood before them, I looked into the eyes of those whose greatest desire is to serve God and serve others. These ladies each have the heart of a servant.

Psalm 103:1 “Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth.”

Since their beginning, they have supported our military with care packages, cards, prayers, and support to the families of those deployed.

Prayer Ministry. If this group of ladies say they are praying, then you know your name and your need is on their lips, coming from their heart, everyday.

And there is more they do! Preparing meals. Sending cards of encouragement. And a vital support ministry within their church. Clearly, this is not a group of ladies sitting around wondering what to do and waiting on someone to do it for them. They serve God by serving others.

It was 2003 when I first came to know the ladies of the Widows’ Might. Since that time, they have been a part of my life, and that of my family, in many ways. When we faced trying times while caring for elderly parents, they were there to encourage, offer advice, and a strong arm to lean on when we thought we couldn’t go another step. When my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, they were there beside us, soothing us, and loving my mother until the end.

Years ago, while complimenting my mom, someone said to me, “She has the heart of a servant.” And it was true. My mom lived her life to serve God and others. She passed away in 2008 and without a doubt, left her mark of servanthood and gratitude. She lived life completely, fully, no matter her circumstances. During her “Going Home Celebration,” her pastor mentioned her well-worn Bible, where scriptures are highlighted from page to page. But there was one he mentioned that was her “life” scripture. Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” But not only had she highlighted that scripture, but written in her handwriting beside the scripture are the words, “Life’s Power.”

I was given a gift yesterday by these ladies. A beautiful and thoughtful gift. One that will be at a prominent place in my home. It is a wooden plaque made with my mother’s life scripture and the words, “Life’s Power.” Their gift to me is a treasure that will always remind me of my mom, but also, a reminder of a beautiful group of ladies who love God and live to serve Him and others. (Thank you to Teresa Prince, the artist who did the plaque! Great job! Visit her website at http://www.3treesart.com/ and like her on Facebook at “Three Trees”.)

And these ladies know how to plan a meal! From the baked ham, salads, vegetables, beans and cornbread to desserts, they know how to make someone feel special! They will be sending their recipes to share with us, but until they do, you will just have to look at the pictures and drool!

Psalm 18:30 NIV “As for God, His way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in Him.”
