The House is Filled with Pumpkins and Turkeys!

The last few weeks have been busy filling every nook and corner of the house with pumpkins, scarecrows, turkeys, dried flowers, and anything else to announce the time of harvest and Thanksgiving is here! Whimsical characters greet you at the hallway entry table while some sit on shelves and others in the most unexpected places.

Throughout the house, floral arrangements have changed from bright summer colors to warm hues of autumn. Some of the flowers were already in place; I just added a few dried flowers, twigs, and fall leaves for the seasonal style.

I have created as many things as I can imagine with our cuttings from the muscadine vines and you never know where you will find them hanging – over a doorway, twining around a set of guest towels, or woven together to create napkin rings for the tablescape.

Candles are burning, casting a soft glow as their scent fills the house with aromas of pumpkin spice, cinnamon apple, and one of my new favorites, Banana Nut Bread. It is no wonder we eat so much more this time of the year with the candle’s scent drawing us toward the kitchen to find the delectable source!

Here’s a quick peek at a few of the displays throughout the house.

My friend, Diane Huff Pitts of High Cotton – Where Life Matters creates an atmosphere that is both beautiful and nostalgic.

In a country setting where cotton is ready for picking and pumpkins are ripening on vines in open fields, Diane’s porch is warm and inviting with colorful pots of mums and a vine wreath adorned with beautiful fall leaves. As you step through the doorway, the scent of pumpkin spice candles circles the air around you and immediately you feel at home in a place where “life matters.”

With a decorating style filled with southern charm, Diane incorporates simple objects for interest and color. One of my favorites is a print of a Celtic prayer displayed on her mantel next to a green vintage bottle.
