The house is smelling a lot like Christmas, the decorations are up and Christmas music is playing. Looking so forward to the next few days as family arrives and our holidays get-togethers begin. There is nothing like being with family at Christmas. Today I am baking the German Chocolate cake that has been a family tradition since I remember my first Christmas as a little girl, as well as a Lane Cake, pecan pies, and Grandmother Herron’s cranberry relish recipe. We will have homemade rolls and will all eat way too much!

While putting away projects in my office, taking a few days off from my work, I found a page that I had torn out of a Country Home magazine from July/August of 2008. Love these chairs! I am putting this on my to-do-for-the-garden list this year! Can’t wait. I love to have things in the garden, along a trail that is so unexpected. Things that catch you by surprise and make you go “Wow!”

Garden Chairs

Huge, oversized chairs make a statement in any garden, small or big.

I think that is one of the great things about life. Sometimes the surprises make you say, “I didn’t see that coming!” but most of the time life’s little surprises are the spice that makes our life so flavorful. God is like that. He places people, things, or the unexpected in our path to catch our attention, make us slow down, or turn a different direction. It’s like finding an unusual chair along a garden path. It says “Slow down, sit awhile with me.”

Enjoy your time with your family during the holidays. Take in every moment, make memories. Don’t rush through the holidays. Be intent on making it the most relaxing, enjoyable time so when January 1 comes, you are ready to face 2012 with a refreshed mind and body! Merry Christmas everyone.
