Each year during the holidays, I am reminded of the traditional foods our family enjoyed during my childhood days. One dish that always graced our table was my Mom’s 5-Cup Fruit Salad. As far back as I can remember, a holiday meal was not complete without it. Still today, it is always on the menu for our family holiday dinners.
Recipe and Directions
1 cup sour cream
1 cup mandarin orange slices, drained
1 cup crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup coconut
1 cup miniature marshmallows
Mix all ingredients and refrigerate at least two hours before serving. Enjoy!
Optional: 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Optional: 1 cup chopped Maraschino cherries (Note: I don’t do this! Research and discover information about canned Maraschino cherries!)

Sandi, I look forward to trying this recipe! It reminds me of the fruit salad I looked forward to at church socials, back when I was a young girl. I always scanned the long table laden with food, as I waited in line, hoping to locate this delicious salad among the amazing food choices.
Tina, not only is it delicious, but looks beautiful on the holiday table. Be sure to share some pictures when you serve this to your family!
My Mother would make this when we were young. Brings back memories.
Betty, it was definitely the same way at our house. We could not have a holiday meal without this salad. My mom always prepared it and we ate every bite!
The 5 cup fruit salad sounds delicious! Thanks for posting.
Janice, it is as easy of a recipe as there can be and yet so good! Hope you will try it! Be sure to use high quality sour cream. Makes the difference! (I do not use fat free sour cream!) Also, I use Baker’s Flaked Coconut. Very moist!
Sandi, I have been following your blog for some time now. I enjoy the recipes and the stories. This recipe is one that our family has for holiday meals, too. Very good. Sometimes I enjoy it as a dessert!
Joyce, thank you for your comment! Glad you are following and thank you for subscribing. I appreciate all of my readers and welcome any comments about things you would like to see on here in the future. And, I also enjoy this fruit salad by itself!
