There is something comforting about the sound of the train as it travels through our small town. Maybe because it is one thing that is always constant. It is good to have some things that never change.
Each night while falling asleep, I hear the whistle blowing in the distance. It is telling me goodnight, sweet dreams as it has since we built here in 1989. I love my home and our roots have grown deep in this city! The whistle of the train is a reminder of many memories, some yesterday, others from days long ago. If I listen closely, the sound of children laughing is loud and clear as they ride their bikes up an down the gravel road. The old stray dog that decided our home was his can be heard barking. Even the school bell ringing in the distant, calling children to begin their day of learning and exploring worlds outside of our small town. All these things make me smile, all recalled from my memory bank just because of the sound of a passing train.
Do you hear a train at night, and if so, how does it make you feel?
