This picture of our cat resting on a windowsill came to mind this morning as I thought of how God brings us to a place of rest while He is doing things on our behalf. I also was reminded of an incident that happened years ago while Anna, a 5-year-old friend of our family, was our guest for a summer.

Anna had a special friend that summer; his name was Louie. He was our big yellow cat with huge green eyes. Each morning Louie sat on the porch steps waiting for Anna to arrive. Then, when the car turned into the drive to drop her off, he would leap off the steps and, in a dash, be at her car door to greet her.

Louie and Anna were a team; wherever you found one, you found the other. And that included the pool. He was not afraid to be on a float with water splashing around him as long as Anna was by his side.

One hot, humid day, I glanced out the window to see our little blond-headed girl sitting on the front porch steps sharing an ice cream bar with Louie. Holding the ice cream in one hand and Louie tucked securely under her other arm, they were the picture of perfect summer bliss. Anna was eating from one side, the cat from the other. It was such a sweet scene, but to my alarm, I realized they were rapidly approaching the middle of the ice cream and would meet nose to nose! So I rushed out the door to intervene just in time!

I think both the cat and Anna were disappointed! Louie continued to lick at the ice cream that had gathered in his whiskers while I went inside to get another popsicle for Anna.

This time, Anna sat inside as she enjoyed her treat – away from Louie and without his help. He sat on the windowsill, looking in, meowing for another taste of that delicious ice cream. She loved Louie and was ready to share with him again if I had not convinced her otherwise.

I have often wondered how many times I was unaware that Anna and Louie shared ice cream!

The image of Anna sharing ice cream with the old yellow cat is forever etched in my memory. And when the image comes to mind, God shows me that no matter where I am in life, He is ever-present, always watching, and without my knowledge, is working on my behalf. All I need to do is wait for His divine intervention.

No matter what you are going through, God is there with you. He will always rescue you in His perfect timing.

He will use times of testing to allow you to grow, but He will never allow the enemy to overcome you.

He is working for you even when you do not feel His presence.

My devotion for today is from Psalm 46:10 (NKJV).

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

Wait on the Lord. This week will be full of challenges, opportunities, and the beginning of great things. Just remember to rest and get ready! Spring is not far away!

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Psalm 46:10

“He will rescue us in His perfect timing and will never allow the enemy to overcome us if we place our trust in Him. He is working for us even when we do not feel His presence.” Sandi Herron, Promises & Prayers, February 2023 on Amazon
