Four Years Today
Today, October 1, 2015, marks four years since we began sharing our life journey with you through Life at Spring Meadows (sandiherron.com). I look back to our first article posted October 1, 2011 and see how we have grown since that first day. The first few weeks were about Friendship and Finding Space to Relax. Friends and family have always been important; still are! I noticed one of the first to comment was my dear friend, Janice Chesser. She has been with me since the very beginning, encouraging me along the way. I was blessed to speak at one of the meetings with the Widows’ Might ladies of Liberty Baptist, where Janice serves with some of the most beautiful “inside and out” ladies I have ever met. They serve God by serving others.
Life Captured in Photography
We have shared a lot of photos. It is hard to say what is my favorite. I love photography and so many times I never realize what has been captured until I sit at my desk and view the photos. There have been a lot of surprises. Some of the surprises never made it on here for obvious reasons. But the ones that did make the cut still today remain some of our favorite surprises in photography. As you scroll through the site, you can tell that I enjoy nature photography the most.
Home Cooked Meals
We have cooked many meals and shown you the results. The Old Fashioned Banana Pudding is a post you have visited often, but the latest recipe, Chocolate Chip Pound Cake, is about to take over as the number one place in number of page views.
Short Stories and Life Notes
The story of Mary and Her Hoosier Cabinet was introduced to you last year and we are not going to leave her in that kitchen much longer. You will soon read about her son, Jonah, and the outhouse. We also have a Life Notes story coming from our wonderful friends in Minnesota that will touch your life in more ways than you can imagine. In this inspirational story, there is humor as well as heartbreak, but God wins in the end.
Backroads Traveler
On the back roads of Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South, and North Carolina, we discovered things from the past and people of today and had our first taste of Blackberry Tea. We met people as we stopped to photograph an old fence, beautiful horses, and barns. We discovered old cemeteries where the soil was soaked with the tears of those left behind. And, yes, we found an outhouse in one of the cemeteries plus another behind a historical church site.
The Journey
Over the last four years, our journey has taken us through happiness and joy, heartache, doubts and fears, homecomings and homegoings; just living life through it all. We have grown both emotionally, spiritually, and if I eat one more slice of cake, I can add “physically” that my waistline has grown, too. We started a home renovation project in 2012 and are still working on it. One day we will post before and after pictures with dos and don’ts! But as hard as that renovation has been, we are constantly saying how thankful we are that we did it. One of my favorite places to sit is on one of the porches that was part of the renovation. The TV is never on during the day because I enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while relaxing on the porch. The hummingsbirds are one of my favorite.
Bear and Callie have been a part of the journey as well as our fish, birds, cats, and anything else that has wandered through our yard looking for a place to call home.
Growing Together
Blessed with family and friends, I think we will keep on doing what we are doing. And as I said in my very first post, I am glad you are on this journey with us. Thank you for staying and growing with us, enjoying the laughter because we have plenty of that! As a way of saying thanks to our subscribers, we have something in the works for you!
