Underneath the window, on the shelf that stretches across the entire stairway opening, I have family photos that I see each time I go up and down the stairs. It might look too cluttered and busy to some, but to me, it brings joy each time I see the faces of the ones I love so very much. That’s not clutter. That’s pure joy.

The Window of Our Life

“You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts” 2 Corinthians 3:3. (This would be a great scripture to do Verse Mapping).

There is a window in our stairwell that was strategically placed to flood the staircase and hallway with sunlight. Each time I go down the stairs, I pause to look through it at the gardens and pasture in the distance.

It’s hard to keep the window clean; it takes a ladder to reach both the inside and the outside. We get busy and don’t clean it as often as we should, and it shows. (There is even an impression left from a bird that attempted to fly through it!) But when it is clean, the window sparkles when sunlight hits it just right.

The window does not create light; it simply allows light to pass through. That is an example of the calling on our lives. We are not called to be perfect. There is only One who is perfect. But we are called to be authentic believers whose lives reveal Christ.

What does that look like to family, friends, or the strangers we meet? It could be a smile or kind words to someone we meet in the grocery store. I love to write, sew, quilt, craft, cook, paint, and always looking for new ideas to make or share. I love to use my camera to capture life and tell a story through pictures. I have a web and graphic design business that keeps me busy, but I love my work and enjoy interacting with my clients as together we see their vision become a reality. More than anything, my greatest passion is serving God in a way that others see Him through me. I don't always do everything just right, but each day I get up, I turn that day over to God, asking Him to help me try to get it right one more time.
Sandi Herron.
