Keepsake Box | Telling a Life Story of Long Ago

Keepsake Box | Telling a Life Story of Long Ago

While browsing through an old box of keepsakes that belonged to my Grandmother Headrick (Mama Headrick is what we all called her!), I found several folded newspaper ads, a quilting pattern, postmarked letters from her family in Mississippi, and numerous handwritten recipes. The image that came to mind as I glanced through the recipes was her kitchen. Every time I entered her house through the back door into the kitchen, I would always find leftover biscuits with smoked bacon or maybe her teacakes fresh out of the oven. Morning Walks In the Gardens

Morning Walks In the Gardens

One of my favorite and most relaxing times is spent in the gardens, walking down the pathways in the early morning hours. The sun is barely up as I begin; dampness from the night still lingers in the air. The leaves of trees and flowers glisten with morning dew. Lately, I have been on both sides of the line where I needed kind, loving words and then later, I needed to be the one to give them. God help us all to put things in perspective, pray for patience, wisdom, and kindness. Show love. Be slow to anger. Be ready to forgive and forget. There are far greater issues in this world than getting our feelings hurt …

Mary and the Hoosier Cabinet

Mary and the Hoosier Cabinet

In my kitchen sits an antique Hoosier cabinet, traditionally known as the “Kitchen Work Center” of the late 1800s to early 1930s. Years ago, a loving mother stood at this cabinet,…
