Writing is a passion

Welcome Home!

Grab a cup of coffee or a tall glass of iced tea and take a load off from the busyness of this world.

This Scripture best describes how we feel about home, what it is, and where it is: “Lord, through all the generations you have been our home! (2) Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.” Psalm 90:1-2 NLT

As you stroll through my site, what I write about will tell you who I am and what I enjoy. But first, let me tell you about the manual typewriter you see in the picture. It’s been around for as long as I can remember. It was my dad’s, and I can still see it sitting on his office desk next to the window that overlooked the Bright Star Restaurant in downtown Bessemer, Alabama.

Growing up in the days before electronic devices, my brothers and I learned to type on this vintage machine. Occasionally, I type on it just to hear the sound of the hammer as it swings up to leave its intended mark. Each time I place my hands on the keys, it takes me back to simpler days before technology stormed our world. It is also a reminder to use care in how we approach life; sometimes, whiteout is not an option.

Chapter 1

Life—Our Beginning

In the fall of 1973, a strapping, good-looking young country/cowboy went to the State Fair with a friend. Meanwhile, in another city, a young girl who was part country, part “citified,” joined with a group of girls for a fun night at the fair. Yes, you guessed it. That country/cowboy and this country/city girl met on the fairway at the Alabama State Fair. One year later, we married and began a life journey together.

Chapter 2

Spring Meadows—A Place to Call Home

Where we live is called Spring Meadow Farms. The name drew me before I even saw the property with the stream running through it. The moment I first stepped onto our land, I knew it would be the place we call home, and it would be here that we would make a lifetime of memories.

Chapter 3

The Changing Years

The years of raising our family passed too quickly, and we are now empty nesters. Our children are married, and we are proud Pawpaw and Mimi to three wonderful grandchildren: two girls and a boy. I like to brag on each of them, so throughout my site, you will read stories about them and see lots of pictures.

Chapter 4

The People In Our Life

In addition to family, our life is enriched with friends, neighbors, and a community where people know one another. Combining my love for people with a joy for baking and cooking, I am one happy girl sharing a home-cooked meal with family and friends.

Tablescaping is something I enjoy, and I’ve included a section on my website with a few of my favorites. Check out our Tablescapes.

Chapter 5

Porch Sitting | Where Life Stands Still

Throughout my life, a porch has been where friends and family gather and time stands still. It is where stories are shared, laughter is heard, and the scent of wild honeysuckle fills the air. I recall many hot southern evenings enjoying a cold glass of iced tea and good conversation.

I believe that everyone has a story to tell; sometimes, we just have to dig deep to find it. It is on the porch where many people discover their stories as they relax and unwind from the busyness of life.

Chapter 6

The Market Garden and Farming

We run a small farm and Market Garden offering fruits, cut flowers, and vegetables and use our experience to help others learn to grow and preserve their food.

My mother always had the most beautiful flower gardens in our neighborhood, and I inherited my love for flowers from her. Check out the Memory Garden built in her honor.

Chapter 7

Life Through the Lens of My Camera

Nature, landscapes, gardens, and capturing people and animals living life is what photography means to me. One of my favorite photos was taken a few years ago on a walk through the woods. Photography surprises I love!

Chapter 8

Things My Mother Taught Me

When I was too young to recall much of anything else, I remember coloring books my mother created with her drawings and artwork. She taught me how to illustrate by using Sears & Roebuck catalogs to cut out characters and objects, then glue them to pages to illustrate a story. Later in life, I developed a successful graphic design business specializing in Advertising and Web Design/Development.

Chapter 9

What Matters Most

Of all the things I enjoy, my deepest passion is serving God and serving others. Writing about life experiences combined with a biblical application is one of the ways I share my faith with others. Check out my Life Notes section.
